Colour: Deep garnet red, with purple highlights. Nose: Red fruit (raspberry, blackcurrant), with a hint of liquorice. Palate: Good attack, it is a round, elegant wine, soft and concentrated tannins, and a long after taste of blackcurrant and raspberry, spicy (pepper) when it is young. Soil: Our Hermitage 'Monier de la Sizeranne' grows on different types of soil, from West to East: 'les Bessards': Granite origin. It forms the 'soul' of a good Hermitage wine 'le Meal': Old alluvial terraces, with a lot of gravels and rolled pebbles, more or less chalky 'les Greffieux': Limon with rolled stones. Harvest: Hand harvesting at optimal maturity. Vinification: The grapes ferment in open wooden vats after total destemming. Two daily treadings ensure a good extraction of the tannins. The temperature of fermentation varies between 30 and 33Deg C. Maturing: Maturing takes place in oak casks for between 12 and 14 months, of which one third is new oak.
