Pernand-Vergelesses Wines

Pernand-Vergelesses lies on the west side of the Montagne de Corton, where the limestone soils, and less sunlight, lead to lighter, less concentrated wines. This is the side of the mountain, which is best suited to the Chardonnay, and from where the world famous Corton Charlemagne is produced. Pernand-Vergelesses reds can often be slightly unripe or ‘green’, due to the relative lack of sunlight. At best the reds are light, attractive, with primary red berry fruit flavours.

The Premier Cru appellation for Pernand-Vergelesses applies only to white wines, and these offer some of the best value in the region, benefitting from their proximity to Corton Charlemagne vineyards, and offering a less complex and intense version of the wine, yet still with the style, depth and mineral intensity typical of this area. A great appellation in terms of quality and value for money as far as white Burgundy is concerned.
