About Pouilly-Fume

On the other side of the river is Pouilly-Fume, an area, which produces only white wines, again from the Sauvignon Blanc grape. The name of the wine is significant – Pouilly being the village, and Fume (meaning smoky), after the pungent Sauvignon Blanc grape, from which the wines are made. These wines follow 2 styles, either young and fresh, or more complex and oak aged, and in general the wines here have greater longevity than their neighbour Sancerre.
