Lirac

Lirac is situated to the west of Chateauneuf, on the other side of the Rhone River, but shares many of the similarities of soil and climate, with the hot, dry Mediterranean climate, and with vines growing on a bed of big, smooth, sun-bleached stones.

About & Food Matching

Lirac is known for its rose wines, which offer a better price than its more famous Rose specialist neighbour Tavel. These are fruity, dry, and great food wines. However it is also producing some increasingly good red wines, which vary between Cotes du Rhone villages and Chateauneuf in style.

Style: the roses are fresh, dry, yet full bodied, with a ripe, red berry fruit style, but with a herbaceous tang – great food wines; the reds are robust, but intensely fruity, with a blackberry and peppery edge.

Good with: the Rose wines are great with salmon, prawns, and pan fried fish; also chicken in tomato, herb and olive based sauces. The reds are natural partners to charcuterie, venison, and lamb stews.
