New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc

This is the grape variety, which initially put New Zealand, firmly, on the international stage. The purity and intensity of the style, with its bold, citrus , uncompromising flavours, took the world by storm. With its home in Marlborough, where it creates different styles in the Wairau Valley, from the more mineral style of the Awatere Valley, Sauvignon blanc is also producing some top quality wines in Martinborough and in the other South Island regions. The styles range from the ripe, intense tropical and passion fruity character of the Wairau River wines, to a fresher, zestier and more herbaceous, minerally style from the Awatere, and other southern regions

Matching New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc & Food

New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc Grape

Look no further than freshly prepared seafood, simply pan-fried fish, and zingy green salads. It’s a natural match with asparagus, and also a perfect match to thai and Chinese dishes, where it’s aromatic, lime-fresh flavours perfectly balance the spiciness of the oriental flavours. Will also work with mild Indian curries, and is a delightful match with goats cheese salad.

How much should I be paying?

The brands such as Oyster Bay, Cloudy Bay and Brancott Estate all have their own price points, and you can see from our historical pricing what is good price for these. In general cost is going up due to poor production in 2012, so you normally see prices starting from £5.50 and going up to around £20. There are very few that are priced over £20 or under £5 – occasionally strong offers from the supermarkets can get it below £5.
