About Meursault Wines

Arguably, the most recognisable of all white Burgundy regions, Meursault lies at the heart of the Cote de Beaune, and 95% of its production is focussed on high quality white wines. It is a small area of 5km north to south, on stoney, and limestone soils, where the Chardonnay thrives. Meursault produces some of the richest style of Chardonnay, with opulent, fat, creamy, buttery character, and aromas and flavours of baked apples, and toasted hazelnuts. The wines have many subtle variations within the small appellation, but generally have lower acidity and steeliness than neighbouring Puligny and Chassagne, and portray classic, generous white Burgundy characteristics.

Somewhat surprisingly the commune contains no Grand cru wines, but the overall quality is consistent and higher than many villages.

The best of the Rhone? - Guigal
Guigal was established shortly after the Second World War by Étienne Guigal who started with another famous Rhone name, Vidal Fleury. As testament to his success, Guigal now in fact owns Vidal Fleury too. The Guigal name really came to the fore when wine critic, Robert Parker led the charge in heaping praise upon their Côte-Rôtie wines. Guigal have since purchased Château d'Ampuis in the 90s, which is now their headquarters and fittingly, the home where Étienne Guigal’s wife used to work as a…
